Tales of Mere Existence

There are things you think about but you don’t talk about.  And then there are things you think about talking about, but never get to say.  Cartoonist/animator Lev Yilmaz knows all about that.  His comics and films all are born from a common universal angst–the need to be cool at a party, disasterously followed by the “I should have said such and such…” lament on the drive home.

Lev doesn’t just lament.  He draws and he shares.  Call Ingredient X his therapy, and call us his therapists.  We encourage him to emote and that pays dividends.  Lev’s influences include early Matt Groenig (the pre-Simpsons Groenig, creator of “Life In Hell” series) and all Kurt Vonnegut. That makes him existential. That may may be what makes his “Tales of Mere Existence” series of comics and QuickTime moves so darned funny. Viewed on Quicktime.
