Kid-E.tv

Do you like wild and crazy kid stuff all designed around the letter “e”? If so then surf on over to Kid-E.tv and see what you’re missing.

Co-founders Jess and Chip Nelson have created an interactive, family-friendly website based upon the concept that in the new world order, all things important will begin with the letter “e”; for example, e-commerce, email, e-content.

Kid-E.tv purports to be “a different kind of kiddie tv”. In that vein, it sports a cast of 36 stick figure characters, all with heads shaped like the letter “e”. The characters are designed to interact in animated “sitcoms” on the site. So far, I’ve found two distinct animated sitcom programs. The first is a series of animated shorts involving Hair-e the Wolfman and his skateboard. The other program stars E-lectra in “Cute Kid-E.tv”.

Hair-e the Wolfman’s antics are designed in an early version of Macromedia’s Flash while E-lectra is created in Gif Animation. Most site visitors should have no problem viewing these little cartoons.

What most visitors will have trouble doing is easily navigating Kid-E.tv. It’s easy enough to surf over to the website–just type in the URL. Once there, a click on the blue “e” below E-bert inside the TV will start a cute animated opening. That leads to a three-part directory. But after you choose a place to go, you are ON YOUR OWN. The convenience of conventional tab markings (home, contact, about us, info, etc.) are absent on every single page. That makes surfing Kid-E.tv a game unto itself. But not necessarily a fun one.

Despite its many drawbacks, Kid-E.tv is worth a visit. Each animation sequence is accompanied by cute, original music or prose. Also the site directory is chock full of things for big kids and little kids to enjoy.

Finally, Kid-E.tv rates a .com Dish! “E”, appropriate for every age.
