Have you ever thought to yourself, “I could easily be the general manager of a major league sports team!” If so, then surf over to RealGM and see what you’re missing.

The premise behind RealGM is that given enough up-to-the-minute news and analysis of the NBA, any serious sports fan could cultivate his or her own abilities, and successfully play General Manager. Clearly RealGM is designed for the fantasy league player in all of us.

The site’s major feature is the Trade Checker. By entering the names of the players you want to trade, Trade Checker will compute the possibilities of such moves happening by computing variables like salary caps and base year compensations.

Here’s an example of the complexities of modern sports general mangaging: I recently tried to trade Atlanta Hawks power forward Zaza Pachulia for Boston Celtics monster center Mark Blount. Trade Checker informed me that a conflict had occurred and therefore the trade could not be made until a future date.  RealGM also gave me a legal breakdown of the successful trade as it related to salary caps and the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

I was also informed that such a trade might add to my total team assists per game, but that I would come up negative on the total points scored and points allowed per game. What have I learned from RealGM?  That while it may be good to be King James, it’s much tougher to be his general manager.

RealGM is more than just the NBA and trading.  It has expanded to include MLB, NHL, and the NFL. Though these areas contain much less information than the NBA side, they are no less enjoyable for their content. If you would rather follow your favorite team than lead it, RealGM has plenty of current sports reporting on the site too. Perhaps one of the best aspects of it is the satirical columns penned by the likes of Buster Gunning.

Finally, on the .com Dish! Site Surfin’ Scale, RealGM rates an “T”, appropriate for teens and older.
