Wally: Ridiculously Beautiful Boats

Do you like boat watching? Then surf on over to Wally.com and see what you’re missing.

Wally.com is the showcase website for Wally Yachts, NV, a European specialty boat design/build firm. They have offices in Monaco, Curacao and Italy. The site is understated; characteristic for vendors to the old-moneyed and to the Donald Trumps of the world. It is a well known fact that the rich have their pick of the litter when it comes to personal transportation devices. In order to stand out, manufacturers like Wally have got be distinctive in several ways.

And is Wally ever. All historical records indicate that boats predate just about every single man-made invention save for the wheel. And yet, judging by the images on Wally.com, Wally builders have created some nautical designs that make boats look like they were invented only after rocket ships first flew. Geeks will appreciate this site for the amount of technical specifications included with each product description. Creative types will dig the site for the exterior and interior design elements that come with each marine creation.

If you are fabulously wealthy, you probably already have this site bookmarked, and are maybe even already bored with it. But for the rest of us, this site may just be the ultimate in seafaring eye candy. One word: Wow. Our advice? Surf this site slowly and over time. Entering too deep and too fast might make you queasy–not from seasickness, but from envy.

If that feeling does not overwhelm you, good for you, but still be careful of the sheer volume of images available at Wally.com. The stillness and serenity of the site layout is deceptive. Much like that of a crater lake atop an extinct volcano, the product photos are just the surface. Go deeper and you will find Wally videos. Go deeper still and uncover the coveted Wally wallpapers.

If you had asked me before I surfed Wally what my favorite boat might be, I might have pointed to a forty foot, single-masted ketch. But now, since cruising this website, I’ve got to say I’ve got a new FBFL (Favorite Boat For Life): The Wally 118 Wall Power Yacht. The company calls it “a high performance super yacht integrating technology with design, resulting in unique and marked characteristics.” I just call it the “stealth boat”, and you know what? If I win the Powerball Lottery, that baby is all mine! Ya hear that?! Mine! Mine! Bwahahahahahahaahhahaaaa!

Ahem. Please pardon the outburst. Wally.com is prone to do that to a person. Frankly I am not convinced that winning even a mega millions lottery jackpot would allow me to acquire a Wally. Prices are not quoted anywhere on the site. And while the old saying goes, “If you have to ask…”, the reality of the Internet marketplace begs the question, “Why aren’t there any prices on the site?” Practically speaking, or from an envy standpoint, pricing the equipment online just makes sense.

That does beg the question, “why not list boat prices?” Wally.com is the marketing site for Wally boats, and after all, we uber wealth wannabes deserve to get the full envy treatment.

To sum it up, Wally.com is definitely worth forwarding, has great depth of content, is easy to navigate and has elegant site design (though we’d love to see at least one slide show built in). The fact that the only language on the site is English makes us wonder,” What? Rich people only read British English?” Oh that’s right, I remember now. If one cannot read in English, one simply hires someone who can.
