Online multimedia site Guba and Warner Bros. Entertainment are getting married. It is confirmed that a new service will launch with movies and television shows from Warner Bros. Entertainment. Guba CEO and co-founder Tom McInerney said the deal made his the first U.S. video sharing community to legally distribute Warner Bros. Entertainment’s content.
The deal follows Warner Bros.’ recent agreement to distribute via BitTorrent (HR 5/10). The company previously was known for putting a friendly face on Usenet, one of the very first protocols for sending files over the Internet, which largely fell out of use because it is awkward to use (HR 1/30). Since then Guba has worked closely with the MPAA, expanded to include a vibrant user-created content community and integrated powerful technologies for searching and for filtering out pirated material.
