MTV throws down the online gauntlet with its Overdrive broadband channel. The sites has seven main areas, My Video Music Awards, Music, Movies, On TV, News, Games, and Playlist. My Video Music Awards features exclusive Video Music Awards content, including the actual show. The Music section has what you’d expect from MTV–music videos and web-only music programming. Movies allows site surfers to watch celebrity interviews, “making of” footage, and movie trailers. On TV is the spot to catch up on non-music- video MTV programming.
Playlist is like the “favorites” folder on your Internet browser. Clear instructions tell the viewer to save a show. The playlist is automatically saved, and videos can be re-arranged at any time.
Technically speaking, MTV Overdrive is the bomb. It’s got lightning fast load up times in either Flash or Windows Media Player, and its auto-play feature keeps shows coming. TV commercials are a fact of the web, so expect to see them here, unless you own a Mac. Actually, Mac owners don’t expect to see MTV Overdrive at all. It’s not yet Mac-compatible.
