This just in from Vic Firth: “The world’s largest manufacturer of drumsticks and mallets, brings you interviews, lessons, and “in-the-lot” performances from the world’s hottest drumlines, instructors and arrangers” online at the Vic Firth Video Podcasts.
Now I couldn’t pick Vic Firth out of a police lineup if you superglued drumsticks to his palms, and frankly, I have yet to discern from his website what the heck the initials “W.G.I” stand for, but I tell you what, none of that matters if all you want to do is watch some sick stick and mallet action.
According to Mike Dolbear (apparently the Vic Firth of the U.K.), Mr. Firth is one of the most important people in the drum industry today. “As well as being one of the most incredible characters Vic is also one of the most highly respected timpanists on the planet. Vic Firth joined the Boston Symphony Orchestra in 1951 at the tender age of 21. That in an era when the average age of a BSO member was fifty-five!”
Vic Firth also has the distinction of being the longest-tenured BSO member, having timpanied there for over 50 years. Oh by the way, he also may hold the unofficial record for manufacturing more drumsticks than anyone else on the planet. There’s a reason why he is so successful. Witness his website.
VicFirth.com is the promotional website built to generate sales of Vic Firth percussion products. There are plenty of opportunities to buy some sticks. But why stop there?
This master showman has turned his namesake site into an online entertainment destination with the development of a trifecta of weekly video podcasts. You a fan of the drumset? There’s a video podcast series for you. Maybe you march to the beat of marching band percussion? There’s a weekly video podcast for you, too. Maybe the pristine tympanic sounds of esoteric concert percussion floats your boat. Well there’s a video podcast series for you as well.
Now you can have the best drumming and percussion content available, in the palm of your hand. And with new videos available every week, you can choose your favorite drum set, marching, and concert videos. And best of all - its all free. Second best of all, you don’t have to own an iPod to enjoy the sounds. VicFirth streams in QuickTime.
