Papadizi, played by Israeli actor Menashe Noy, is a goat shepherd from Macedonia in search of an American wife. The short videos were released to the Internet via YouTube and are part of a viral marketing campaign by producer OUri Sasson. They also appear on ifilm.com, but only 5 of the 22 episodes can be streamed there.
Sasson claims that Papadizi exists for art’s sake. “How many time you can see a cat (video) clip or a snake (video) clip or even a porn (video) clip? Papadizi is a viral comedy. if you like it, you will send it to your friends.”
Like any good producer, Sasson is looking for a few good sponsers. His goal is to produce around 250 webisodes in the next year. That is an ambitious goal for many reasons. The first of which is that Papadizi is currently like a one-trick pony. He wants to marry an American woman, preferrably an American celebrity woman. While there are at least that many female, American celebrities that he can pursue, it remains to be seen how long his audience will be entertained by his quest.
For most web producers, it’s enough to get out one webisode per week. That translates to 52 per year, if one is diligent. 250 webisodes in a year equates to one every 1.25 days or so. It’s not impossible, but it may not be probable either. Will Papdizi resort to hawking his own brand of goat’s milk on camera just to make his goal? Surf on over and see what you’re missing.
