Southern Comfort liqueur, “The Grand Old Drink of the South”, was created in New Orleans back in the 1870’s. The two have a long, storied tradition together. That is why, in response to Hurricane Katrina silencing the music of New Orleans, Southern Comfort created the Southern Comfort Music Fund. The goal of the fund is “to help start the music up again.” How can we sitesurfers participate? By surfing on over to the Southern Comfort Music Fund website or surfing over here (if you’re under 18 and don’t want to lie about your age) to see, and hear what you’re missing.
Live performance video intercut with documentary footage of the Katrina aftermath is reason enough to want to support the musicians of the Crescent City. But what really sells the concept is the music. The music is a mezcla of styles, just like the people of New Orleans, and it’s all good. Bands include Cowboy Mouth, Theresa Andersson, Big Sam’s Funky Nation, Hazard County Girls, and the Hot 8 Brass Band.
The Southern Comfort Music Fund helps us all support the revival of New Orleans the right way–by enjoying and purchasing un petit piece of the grand old dame’s culture. Laissez les bon temps rouler.
