Spike Lee is Babelgum’s Inside Man

First indie director Spike Lee lent his name to a contest at LiveMansion.com. Now he’s backing the online, video entertainment venture Babelgum.com.

The Oscar-nominated filmmaker has lent one of his own short films to the site the upstart Internet entertainment website. According to CNN, Babelgum has 1,000 to 2,000 hours of content. Lee’s loaner piece, “Jesus Children of America,” a short film about a Brooklyn teen who learns she was born HIV-positive, could be the only video that comes from such a high-profile director.

“It’s a very important film and I wanted more people to see it,” Lee explains via a YouTube video excerpt. He further articulates his decision to join Babelgum. “I think that technology has really brought democracy to an industry that’s largely not been a democracy.”
